"The Family of Man (1955) and the Family of Photographers: Insiders and Outsiders of the Most Famous Photography Exhibition" is a talk I presented at the international symposium "Now Memories" in Riga, Latvia, on April 13, 2018.
The symposium was part of the Riga Photography Biennial 2018 programming, and took place on April 13 and 14, 2018. For inviting me to speak at this symposium, I am grateful to Indrek Grigor, the symposium's curator.
It was a great honor to present my current research in this symposium dedicated to the examination of the processes that influence history writing.
Although I was not able to be in Riga in person, the symposium's curator Indrek Grigor made sure I was able to record the talk in New York as well as participate in a live discussion with the audience via Skype after the talk .
Riga Photography Biennial is a wonderful event, and I am always more than happy to participate in the biennial's events. Two years ago, for example, I had the honor to deliver a talk in the inaugural edition of the biennial and its very first symposium, "Image and Photography in the Post-Digital Era" (April 22-23, 2016). Read more about my talk "Taking the Selfie Seriously: A Study of the Most Misunderstood Genre of Photography" (Riga, April 22, 2016).
I very much hope to be part of this exciting biennial in its next edition in 2020!
