I’ve just updated the article archive on my website, and I’ve made available a wide range of my articles published between 1998 and 2019.
Most articles are in English and available for you to download and read.
Go to the Articles section and browse all articles organized by year of publication.
The updated article archive includes numerous reviews of biennales and triennales taking place in Europe such as Venice art biennale, Venice architecture biennale, Documenta, Manifesta, Lyon biennale, Liverpool biennale, as well as some lesser known but nevertheless exciting events such as Rauma biennale (Rauma, Finland) and the Baltic Triennale (Vilnius, Lithuania).
I know I’ve written also about the 5th Berlin Biennale (2008) curated by Adam Szymczyk and Elena Filipovic, but it seems I’ve lost track of the published article. Will update when I eventually come across it.
Besides, I’ve written a lot about specialized photography events such as the Brighton Photo Biennale, Backlight Photo Triennale (Tampere, Finland), and Hamburg Photo Triennale.
Also, you’ll find some reviews of art fairs such as Art Basel, Paris Photo and Photokina.
My interviews and monographic essays feature contemporary artists such as Ragnar Kjartansson, Wolfgang Tillmans, Anri Sala, Arnis Balcus, Gunars Binde, Laura Feldberga, and Linards Kulless. I’ve written also about historical figures such as American photographer Edward Steichen, Russian sculptor Vera Mukhina, and Latvian photographer Vilis Ridzenieks.
In the research articles, meanwhile, I focus on illuminating less discussed aspects of photography that include topics such as Soviet socialist realism in photography, the global photo-club culture at midcentury, the overlooked role of institutions and curators as well as a critique of Euro-US-centric approach to the historical narrative of “modern” photography.
