My first full-time academic job after getting my PhD (at the Graduate Center, City University of New York): Researcher at the Communication Studies Department at the Riga Stradins University (RSU) in Riga, Latvia.
I’m working in the Communication Studies Department where my boss is media scholar Dr. Anda Rožukalne. Among my colleagues is media theorist Dr. Ilva Skulte and Dr. Alnis Stakle, a photographer about whom I wrote a book in 2009.
The first couple of months at the RSU have been intense, while I’ve been meeting new colleagues and learning completely new skills needed for new responsibilities. At the same time I’ve been adapting to life in Riga and dealing with lots of practicalities related to a transcontinental move. Nevertheless, I cannot be more happier with the research position that eventually will provide me with so many opportunities to produce new research as well as cooperate with many fellow scholars across Europe.
